COSine 2026 Status Report #1

COSine 2026 will be January 23-25, 2026 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Colorado Springs.

It feels like COSine 2025 was both just yesterday and about twenty years ago. My calendar, however, says that it’s only been four and a half months! I’m increasingly coming to believe that my calendar is part of a conspiracy designed to drive me a little bit crazier day by day. On the other hand, my tea kettle says I’m just being paranoid…

We are already getting excited about COSine 2026. Our guest of honor is the amazing Cory Doctorow. Cory writes fiction and non-fiction and is also a journalist and activist. His best-known fiction may be his Little Brother series. His most recent book is Picks and Shovels, part of his Marty Hench series (the best series starring a forensic accountant you will likely ever read). There may have been some squeeing when he agreed to come to COSine!

Geneticist and bioinformatician Josiah Seaman is our science guest of honor. He has a PhD in Computational Biology and has worked on some really cool-sounding projects. Rumor has it that he and Courtney have something planned together for the con… And, by the way, when he’s not studying neuroscience and particle physics, he’s also a game master!

Michael Carroll is our artist guest of honor. Michael is best known as an award-winning space artist who literally has some of his art on Mars (in digital form)! He also does a bunch of other things, including paleosurrealism—picture a velociraptor in a hot-air balloon and you’ll get the idea! In his spare time, he writes books (more than 30 published works) and lectures and teaches internationally.

I am a bit nervous to have three overachievers like this all in one place—the convention might reach critical mass and implode! And that’s before I bring up our special guests, Sci-Fi Grand Master Connie Willis (really really looking forward to the new book in her Oxford Time Travel Series, A Spanner in the Works), and Doctor Science himself, Courtney Willis.

Registration

On-line registration for the con can be found at https://cosinecon.org/registration. Not sure if you are already registered? Check with our online registration tool. It is really helpful for planning purposes (and for settling our stomach acid) if you register earlier, and it also tends to be a bit cheaper!

Here is the link to register for the hotel: COSine 2026. The rate is $124 per night, which includes a suite, breakfast, drinks and snacks every night, Wi-Fi, and a reasonable supply of nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, and other trace elements in all common spaces. You can also call them at 719-599-9100. Be sure to mention COSine to get the con rate (and so the con gets credit for your room nights :-).

Notes:

  • Can currently only book for Friday-Monday. Should support Thursday in the near future…
  • The user interface is a bit confusing. When you hit the big “Book a Room” button, it will assume you want a room for Friday-Monday for a single person. At the top is an “Edit stay” link where you can specify your dates, etc.
